GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION ACTION COMMITTEE ON THE RECENT FLOODING OF TOWN RESIDENCES AND ARREST OF SUSPECTED CAMPUS CULTIST

Image
GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION ACTION COMMITTEE ON THE RECENT FLOODING OF TOWN RESIDENCES AND ARREST OF SUSPECTED CAMPUS CULTIST The Action Committee uses this medium to sympathize with mass of students who were victims of the flood that occurred in some areas of Ile-Ife as a result of the heavy downpour that rained yesterday. We are not unaware of the untold hardships faced by students who reside in town before now. The exploitation, transportation crisis, insecurity, cruelty of landlords among many others have been the case before the massive flooding, which must have aggravated the sufferings of town residents due to loss of valuable properties, vital documents and several other items to the disaster. While we can ascertain that many students' properties have been lost to the flood, we are yet to confirm if there was any loss of lives during the period, and we sincerely hope there would be none.We make bold to assert that the disaster is a result of leadership failure and n

PETITION TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR ON THE HIGH-HANDEDNESS OF AWO HALL PORTERS/WARDEN

Image
PETITION TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR ON THE HIGH-HANDEDNESS OF AWO HALL PORTERS/ WARDEN STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL Dear Sir, With due regards to your esteemed office, we write this to bring to your notice the bitter, unpalatable and ugly experiences faced by students who reside in Awo Hall and how the Porters have turned themselves into Demi-gods. What should have been described as a peaceful abode of intellectual minds (or castle of great men as our motto depicts) is gradually turning into a banana republic with the constant efforts of Porters to keep harassing, exploiting and oppressing students on baseless reasons. On different occasions, the porters in-charge of Awo hall have preyed on our meekness to humiliate us and make living so unbearable for us. About two weeks ago, some of the porters falsely alleged a student of selling food items in the hostel because of the bulk of food stuff he bought in the market. After several hours of disallowing him from going into his room, they event

CHECK OUT 10 COSTLY MISTAKES UNIVERSITY STUDENTS MAKE IN THEIR FIRST YEAR

Image
CHECK OUT 10 COSTLY MISTAKES  UNIVERSITY STUDENTS MAKE IN THEIR FIRST YEAR TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ AS YOU SET FOR THE UNIVERSITY #1: Lack of Proper Guide One of the mistakes University students make in their first year is that they don’t have proper guide. As a matter of fact, they behave as if they were the first people to get admitted. Funny enough, some of them think once they see their name on the admission list, that is all. Unfortunately, this has led to the downfall of many students. Some end up dropping out of school. As a rule, what every fresh student should do is to ask intelligent questions about their school, department, and other areas. Therefore, you need to be guided in the following areas as a fresh student; Resumption date Clearance date Required documents Updates on course registration School fees payment deadline Reading pattern Structure of examination question Marking scheme How to avoid missing scripts or absent cases Understanding how to cope with

WE NEED A RESPONSIBLE LEADER, NOT TEE PAUL

Image
WE NEED A RESPONSIBLE LEADER, NOT TEE PAUL _"Evil prevails when good men fail to act"_ The state of our hall, Angola, has risen to the level at which our so called imposed chairman, Tee Paul does not even know the problems not to talk of solutions to numerous problems facing innocent Angolans. Porters, Buttery owners and Attendants in Afrika (canteen) have turned themselves to gods as they continue to decide the fate of Angolans, who should decide whatever happens to them, as they are the major stake holder of the Hall. This strange, oppressive and barbaric attitude of these people can't be disconnected from inept attitude of the self acclaimed Chairman of the _bed rock of OAU militancy_  who most of Angolans have not even seen before because he doesn't even stay in the hall he claims to preside on. He has refused to attend to issues of Angolans despite the wailings and plights of Angolans and as left Angolans in a stay of hopelessness. Porters and Buttery Owners

REQUEST TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR ON THE IMMEDIATE OPENING OF ALL GATE LEADING TO AWOLOWO HALL

Image
REQUEST TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR ON THE IMMEDIATE OPENING OF ALL GATE LEADING TO AWOLOWO HALL .....What they died defending had been put to scratch, when things fall apart; the center cannot hold.... It is with a humble mind that is unshaken and unwavering that we write to your office on the need to open all gates and entrances leading to AWOLOWO HALL. This has generated into arguments in the hall of residence. Some people have proven your innocence on this issue while some believe the attack on genuine student gathering and suspension activities by your administration was also extended to halls as no portal, warden, master of any hall can do anything in isolation. Mr Vice Chancellor, Awolowo Hall has turned to something else under your watch which negates what you enjoyed when you were in your undergraduate days. What is left for Awoites is for us to get a blue regalia with number on it which will signify us as omo school Are GBENGA or in a sane language prisoners. The three  gates

WHAT TIME ⌚ SHOULD YOU SLEEP??

Image
WHAT TIME ⌚ SHOULD YOU SLEEP ?? By Dr. Kiran Motwani Is there a best time to sleep? There is a saying that sleeping early and waking up early is good for your health. How true is that? Is it alright to sleep late and wake up late? You actually have an amazing biological clock ticking inside your body. It is very precise. It helps to regulate your various body functions including your sleeping time. From 11pm to 3am, most of your blood circulation concentrates in your liver. Your liver gets larger when filled with more blood. This is an important time when your body undergoes detoxification process. Your liver neutralizes and breaks down body toxins accumulated throughout the day. However if you don't sleep at this time, your liver cannot carry out this detoxification process smoothly. ·         If you sleep at 11pm, you have full 4 hours to detoxify your body. ·         If you sleep at 12am, you have 3 hours. ·         If you sleep at 1am, you have 2 hours. ·        And if

HARRASSMENT & ASSAULTS FROM OAU LECTURERS SHOULD BE CHECKED

Image
HARRASSMENT & ASSAULTS FROM OAU LECTURERS SHOULD BE CHECKED Today I was in the faculty of social sciences when I saw a lecturer, I was told his name is Dr Adedokun Experience from Economics department, who seized a phone from a student who was just passing through the corridor, he said it is because the student was seeing movie on it. He asked if that is the reason why the student came to school. Till now, he has not released the phone and asking him to go and print all his results from part 1 for him to see. The student is not even in the lecturer's department as he is from admin.  He also collected another student ID card that why was he wearing jean trousers and he will like to see his parent before he  can return the ID card. Just last week, many students were chased out of class by a lecturer in a linguistics class because they did not have a particular text book. Some lecturers are even denying students from classes because they did not pay departmental dues of their as

THE TEARS OF MEKUNNU

Image
THE TEARS OF MEKUNNU We have wondered enough. We have been stranded enough. We've tried all we could. We have exhausted our might. Who bewitched us in this land? Who sentenced our sense to exile? To have democracy, is it a course or a blessing? We have suffered enough, but not ready to resist. Who are we to face? Pleading to the innocent souls that have been unceremoniously eradicated? Pleading to our selves for self offence? Pleading to the creator whom we gave no regard. Wait, it seems we need prayers. Haven't we prayed enough? From one disastrous government to another. From 'power' to 'change' Now change has changed to 'Progress' Mtchew, regressive capitalist element. One father leaves and his son becomes the heir, is that democracy or Monarch? One brother left, his junior takes over, is that democracy or something else? One old man leaves and hands over to another, is that democratic setting or Landlord meetings? Poor men are us

AS WE APPROACH NEXT GOVERNORSHIP OR GENERAL ELECTIONS COME 2018 and 2019 RESPECTIVELY , PLEASE PONDER ON THESE STARK REALITIES OR FACTS ON THE LIVES OF NIGERIAN POLITICIANS!

AS WE APPROACH NEXT GOVERNORSHIP OR GENERAL ELECTIONS COME 2018 and 2019 RESPECTIVELY , PLEASE PONDER ON THESE STARK REALITIES OR FACTS ON THE LIVES OF NIGERIAN POLITICIANS! 1. Between 2007 and 2010, Tinubu spent virtually his last kobo to ensure he sent Segun Oni out of the Ekiti State Government House. He did. Today, Oni is the National Vice Chair of APC, a party same Tinubu, not another one o, is the National Leader. 2. Audu Ogbe once told opposition parties there was no vacancy in Aso Rock. He was National Chairman of the ruling PDP then. Today, he is a Minister under a government being controlled by that same opposition. 3. Tinubu once told Obasanjo that he was the "problem of Nigeria". But same Tinubu went to Obasanjo that they had finished the construction of the opposition ship. They wanted him to be the navigator! The old fox readily accepted. 4.Nasir El-Rufai, the diminutive Governor of Kaduna State, once told Buhari that he was not a presidential material. Tod

GREAT IFE OR BABYLON (LAND OF CONFUSION)

Image
GREAT IFE OR BABYLON (LAND OF CONFUSION) I keep wondering the type of confused system we have in OAU, the management that attends parties, encouraged students to attend parties too but discouraged and threaten students not to attend intellectual programs and political symposiums that will better the education sector of the country and the welfare of the staffs too. The powerful and mind liberating political symposium organized by Alliance of Nigerian Student Against Neo liberal Attacks (ANSA) tagged ' Under funding of Education,it consequences, the role of student and staffs ; on hearing this topic you will agree that a reasonable school management is suppose to support the symposium powerfully and mobilize student for it but reverse is the case, the OAU management discouraged and threatened students not to attend the symposiums with the excuse that ANSA is not registered with the school DSA and that student must get permit from the DSA before student can organise. It is stated in

MOURNING IN THE MORNING: July 10 Agony and the Horror of Cultism

MOURNING IN THE MORNING: July 10 Agony and the Horror of Cultism Dunnex writes... "Oro nla le da ,eh eh oro nla le da( great loss you've bestowed on us) Eyin te pomo wa te je o dagba (those who killed our child, depriving him of growing old) Oro nla le da (great loss you’ve bestowed)" That was the song that rented the air of Obafemi Awolowo University during the 'cold' morning of July 10, 1999 as students mourned the organized assassination of their colleagues by men of the underworld sponsored by the then Wale Omole-led University Administration. It was a day when the amusing effects of 'Aro' (A type of joke peculiar to OAU) was replaced with free-flowing tears, a day when the ever-bubbling mood of OAU students was replaced with sadness, a day when the sky casted a dim cloud and the cloud was thick with grief and sorrow. A day when the hope and struggle for a better society blinked because of the loss of five intellectual combatants to the cold hand

JULY 10 - AFRIKA LIVES ON! SAYS NO TO CULTISM!

Image
SHUN CULTISM! Since the wake of the 10th of July 1999 events, the OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY has been sanctified against cultism and all other forms of cult-like activities. The invasion of the Black Axe confraternity on OAU soil on this day and the gruesome murder of five OAU finest blood remains the sacrosanct reasons for us to forever wage war against the trend of cultism on our campus. Nineteen (19) years after the death of the then SECRETARY GENERAL of the students' union, GEORGE AKINYEMI IWILADE (AFRIKA) and four other students (TEMI AJITERU, EVIANO EKELEMU, BABATUNDE OKE and EFE EKEPEDE), the students' union has declared the university, a campus of zero-tolerance to cultism and all other forms of cult-like vices. As we make the commemoration of this unforgettable event this year, we use this medium to sound a note of warning ⚠ to members of neofascist cult groups that OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY remains a NO-GO-AREA for cult violence. We are watching you and we'll f

THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING FOR MASTERS DEGREE (M.SC)

Image
THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING FOR MASTERS DEGREE (M.SC) I gained admission into the university in 2011 at 20 years. I thought I will graduate by the age of 23. In developed countries, you don’t need to pray and fast to graduate on time. In fact, I heard that you are told the day you will be graduating from the university right from your year 1 registration point in some countries. But being a Nigerian who went to a government-owned university, my dream of graduating at 23 years never came through. I graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University and I don’t think I need to tell you the strong relationship between OAU and incessant strikes. Within my first two months campus, I experienced my first strike action. The school management sent us home because of a proposed protest scheduled for our matriculation day. We didn’t resume until three months after.  We proceeded again on ASUU strike in 2013 which lasted for six months. We had other internal strikes and I ended up spending close to five y

LAW VERSUS ENGLISH OR THE SYSTEM VERSUS ALL-OF-US?

Image
LAW VERSUS ENGLISH OR THE SYSTEM VERSUS ALL-OF-US? I have heard the stories making rounds about a fight between Law students and English students. A fight tagged "for supremacy". Before I write anything further, I want to promptly take a jive at the leadership of the LSS and the PRO of NASELS alongside the President of FASA. I want to say what they have written on this issue indicates their shell-thinking and their boxed reasoning on an issue of more serious complexity. What happened yesterday was a fight for limited resources and not a fight between Law and English. It could have happened between Education and Tech. It could have happened between Sciences and Agric. It could have happened anywhere. Students were leaving a class. Students were entering a class. The facilities are not sufficient. 8,000 students were admitted at the last exercise.  English department has about 600 in a class and a Law class has about 400. When 1,000 people try to use 350 seats or so in BOOC
